This antique wool and cotton folk art quilt is filled with fancy hand embroidery work. The antique wool and cotton quilt pattern is a steps and blocks design. Antique Wool Cotton Folk Art Embroidered Quilt Measurement: 68" x 87"
The fine hand stitched embroidering embellishments on the antique folk art quilt are cats, stars, owl, many shamrock clovers, numerous flowers and leaves, and bits of decorative lace. All the joining steps and block pattern seams have fine hand stitched fancy turkey track stitches.
Each square block on the antique folk art quilt measures approximately 5 1/2 x 5 6/8". The step blocks are 2 1/2" x 8" x 8 2/8".
The antique folk art quilt has been made from a combination of solid and prints suiting fabric wools and cotton fabrics. There are light weight wools (perhaps wool challis) and heavier wools and cotton fabric in different weights. The antique folk art quilt is finished off with a narrow edging and a whole cloth backing in navy blue with grey and pink florals.
Antique Folk Art Quilt Condition: There are several fabric damage replacements and needle and thread repairs needed to the quilt. The fabric damage is around the outer edges of the antique quilt.
These are mostly a light green wool fabric where the wool has torn leaving gaps & holes.
I saw 8 step pieces of the green fabric that will need to be replaced.
1 step piece is a light cream wool and has 2 small holes in it and could be repaired instead of replaced.
1 step piece is a light cream with a blue stripe that has a small hole and could be repaired instead of replaced.
1 step piece is white with a black stripe and has 4 small holes & and could be repaired instead of replaced.
I saw 4 black squares and 1 brown square that will need to be repaired with a needle and thread mending. All of these squares are located on the outer edge.
There is fading on some of the velvet embellishments (see photos). A few tiny stains (fingernail size). There may be a few more repairs needed that were not obvious to me when I looked over the quilt.
